By now, you probably know how I love my fantasy. There’s nothing better than the fantabulous combo of magic, castles, swords, and romance, right? Unless, there happens to be some…DRAGONS!

First, be warned: Dragonstone is the prequel to Chalvaren Rising, and you might want to pick it up first. I was a little bit lost at the beginning because I foolishly didn’t read Dragonstone, but it didn’t take long to catch up. I definitely missed out on the first smexy times between the characters, so yeah. Don’t do what I did. Read Dragonstone, people.

Moving on…Mia is an elf who grew up as an outcast among humans, but her family comes from Chalvaren. Her father told fantastical tales of Chalvaren, but Mia wasn’t positive it existed until Kort, a smoking-hot elf prince (and her One True Love), shows up on her doorstep. With a dragonlet. At the beginning of the story, the threesome is just escaping from a village mob through a portal created by some magical steam between Kort and Mia (seriously, pick up Dragonstone so you don’t miss out on that one). Mia’s entrance into Chalvaren is stormy, to say the least. Some of the citizens consider her father a traitor and add her to that category. The queen, Kort’s mother, wants her imprisoned. Worst of all, Mia’s aunt is the villain of the realm, and because Mia has brought the Dragonstone with her, some seriously powerful magic, everyone fears it will fall into the wrong hands.

I loved seeing Mia discover her abilities and magic. She doesn’t back down from a fight, even when she’s seriously unprepared. She doesn’t take crap from Kort or any of the other elves and will do anything for Magnus, her dragonlet. The sparks she makes with her elven prince create some serious steam, even when she’s doubting her HEA. Kort’s a bullheaded alpha, but completely devoted to Mia and will do whatever it takes to keep her safe…even when she doesn’t want to be tucked away like a precious treasure.

Which brings me to the dragons. The dragon details in Chalvaren Rising were freakin’ phenomenal. I loved learning about them, their relationship with the elves, their powers, types, and history. Since Magnus is a dragonlet and learning about being a dragon himself, it was super-fun to watch. And Magnus isn’t any ol’ dragon, but the only spirit dragon in the world, a hot commodity for Ms. Villain, who’s trying to raise her evil wizard lover from the dead. Oh, by killing dragons and harnessing their power.

All in all, if you like fantasy romance, if you enjoy adventure and magic and dragons, don’t miss out. Chalvaren Rising is a great read, and while you’re at it, pick up Dragonstone too. Seriously.
