Clever Tools to Simplify Your #NaNoWriMo17 #Win

Shined full moon

November Is Coming

Ha! It’s that time again. I’m a National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) winner five years in a row now, and counting on another win this year. I’ve learned a few things along the way, and thought I’d share some #clever #tools I use to make it to The End.

Get yourself a timer. Start out with #15minute writing sprints to warm up, and see where your characters lead you. I’ve found #Sprints to be the most effective way for me to get into my story. Often, the first two will yield a low word count, but by the third or fourth sprint my word count goes up significantly. #Sprint with a buddy, or a group. Sometimes the fellowship, or the competition, makes my muse kick my story into high gear.

Know where you’re going with your scene every day. Now, don’t freak out if you’re a #Pantser. I’m not saying you have to change into a #Plotter and define every detail to win #Nanowrimo17. But have some sense of direction—at the very least, know your beginning, a few scenes along the way, and your ending. Each night before you go to bed visualize your next scene. Positive visualization will help you get that next day’s writing on the books, and get you closer to your #win.

Let’s face it. Writing all day long to get in all the words you need for #NaNoWriMo can take its toll on our health. Sitting can shorten our psoas muscles, better known as hip flexors, and that can lead to backache and poor posture. Staring at a screen all day can lead to headaches. Do yourself a favor. Get up and stretch at least every half hour. Find a short fitness routine that works for you, and commit to do it faithfully each day during November.

Developing good habits, like writing every day, positive visualization, and fitness can make November a great month for writers, readers, and books. Happy #Nanowrimo17!, Fiction, Romance, writer

So what about you? What’s one clever tool you use to help you get through #NaNoWriMo?
