Abby O’Malley’s world is falling apart. The historic Savannah bar her father left her is about to be repossessed by the bank–until she catches a leprechaun, Michael McKnight, in her yard. His pot of gold can’t help her, though, because he’s under a fairy curse. The solution to HER problem turns out to be the same as the solution to HIS problem,. Sprinkled with lots of fairy dust and out-of-this-world love, Three Wishes transported me away from my mundane cares–which, of course, is the everyday magic of reading.

“Good God – you’re a leprechaun!” Weekend Writing Warriors 3-13-16

“For the love of God, you’re a leprechaun!”

Folklore about these little men swam in Abby’s clouded head as she reared up, the creature’s lapels in her grasp. Definitely not ugly, he was handsome, in a way, if a good deal smaller than herself, and at about four feet tall he looked more like a dwarf. Leprechauns were a sort of fairy without wings, but also, “Gold – Good God, leprechauns are magic fairies who own gold!”

He narrowed his eyes, and said, “Gold – that’s all you got – is that the only thing you know about us?”

A smile lit Abby’s eyes. “You’re tall for a leprechaun.”

He smiled back at her, winked, and said, “Let me introduce myself, Abby. My name is Michael McKnight…the Tall.”

THREE WISHES

Abigail O’Malley’s world turns upside down when a rival Irishman threatens to take her bar, an historic Savannah landmark, mere days before the start of the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

When she captures a leprechaun with fairy charms, her three wishes include his gold, fairy magic, and the mystery of her One True Love.

Michael McKnight has pined over Abby forever, but will he have time to reveal his true nature and prove he’s up to the task of granting all her wishes before the bad guys close in and destroy Abby’s dreams forever?

A Leprecahun’s Gold, Fairy Magic, and the mystery of her One True Love: THREE WISHES & Weekend Writing Warriors 3-6-16

Last week’s excerpt’s last line:

Abby’s knees chose that moment to give way, and she collapsed into a heap at the base of the tree.

Michael McKnight heard Abby’s plea, felt the waves of magic radiating out to him from the fairy charms she’d acquired, and the instant she’d asked for fairy magic, and put that tiny door at the base of the grand live oak he bent time and space to get to her. Banished for the last ten years for the misuse of his magic—and for hoarding gold—he had spent a life apart from her, one that had literally been a living hell.

“Wake up, Abby!” He’d scared the precious thing to death. “What have I done – ahh, damn it, Abby, don’t do this to me, sweetheart, wake up!”

Getting caught by a human was end-game for any leprechaun, but Michael wanted her to catch him. He’d loved her since they were children, and sometimes he thought he’d dreamed her into life.

But she’d never recognize him now—penance for his sins included the curse of living in this ridiculously tiny body with the green felt hat and shoes.

He cradled her head in his hands, her angelic face graced with freckles, everywhere, and those waving locks of long ginger hair. “Ahh, my Irish lass, through-and-through, you’re overcome with the sight of me.”

“Some prince charming, huh?” Weekend Writing Warriors and THREE WISHES – 02-21-16

Hello Dear Readers,

Wishing for spring? For those of us Down South, spring is definitely in the air. So, in honor of my Savannah heritage I’m sharing a snippet from a little Irish fairy tale I wrote, entitled THREE WISHES.

Abigail O’Malley cursed under her breath, stalked down the cobblestone street of Savannah’s historic district, and dialed her friend/bouncer/right-hand barman. A moment later Eddie’s big bass voice filled the phone with, “O’Malley’s Bar & Grill.”

“You’re never gonna believe it,” Abby said, cringed, and delivered the news. “Kevin Finnegan called the note due on the property taxes on the bar, and my house.”

“Sheee-it,” Eddie said, his southern drawl drawing the cussword out into two long syllables, and if she weren’t so devastated Abby would have laughed.

“He proposed last night, and when I refused he immediately demanded his damn money. Some prince charming, huh?”

“O’Malley’s is prime real estate on River Street sweetheart, but he can’t move in on us the week before St. Patrick’s Day! Can’t you file an injunction or something, maybe sic your snake of an attorney on his ass?”

“I tried, Eddie, but Kevin Finnegan’s the president of the damn bank, and he wants his money tomorrow.”

St. Patrick’s Day is in my blood – part of my history growing up in Savannah, Georgia. Heck, it’s a national holiday in Savannah, and a bang-up serious celebration. Allegedly, the 2nd largest Irish celebration in the US happens right there in my hometown.

My Ultimate Halloween Party Guest List and Three Wishes

OK. OK. It’s still March, right? Yes, St. Patrick’s Day is two weeks away, but Halloween is right around the corner when you’re planning big parties! I love fantasy characters, so I put together a list.

I’m looking ahead to October and wanted to share/reblog this awesome post. Way back in May of 2013 I appeared on Butterfly-o-meter. com with a guest post featuring Three Wishes.

ThreeWishes-200X300

The Fictional Characters I’m inviting to my Ultimate Halloween Party
We all have our favorites. Here’s a sneak-peek of who’s on my Halloween Party invitation list this year, and why:

1. Edward Cullen, cuz you know, he just makes vampires look sexy.
2. Andre Maras, the lead vampire from Amber Belldene’s Blood Vine series. I figure Andre and Zoey Porter would be fun at a party, especially if they were pouring the wine.
3. Beast, from Disney’s Beauty and The Beast, because he’s just so much fun to look at. Besides, we’ll need a bouncer, right?
4. Tony Stark, from Iron Man. Who doesn’t want to attend a party where Tony’s flash and dazzle will light up the venue?
5. OK, ALL the Avengers! Bound to make for interesting party conversation.
6. Dr. Who, because I love his English accent and he can stage the Tardis outside for time-travel fun rides.
7. Chewbacca. He can bounce with the Beast just in case the vampires and the Avengers take issue with the party favors.
8. Hiccup and Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon. I’ll have them staged next to Dr. Who and the Tardis for party-goers who want to stay in this realm and take a dragon ride. Maybe Magnus, Mia, and Kort from Dragonstone will come and offer dragon rides too?
9. Jarrid, and his sexy brothers from Tricia Skinner’s novel Angel Bait – you never know when you’re gonna need half-angel assassins to back up the bouncers. This is an eclectic group, and thing might get out of hand!
10. And last but definitely not least, Michael McKnight and Abigail O’Malley from my short story Three Wishes, the guests of honor. Word on the street is they’ve got a fairy dance troupe following them around that’s bound to please the Halloween crowds. Dancing is a must at my outrageous party.
How about you? Any favorite fantasy characters on your list for your Ultimate Halloween party?
